Motor control: cerebellum Flashcards
what are 3 functional output lobes of the cerebellum and their functions
- spinocerebellum - descending motor systems
- cerebrocerebellum - motor planning and fine movements
- vestibulocerebellum - to vest. nuc for balance and eye movements
what are 4 input regions of cerebellum
- corticopontine
- spinal
- visual/auditory
- vestibular
what input is received from the cortex
planned movement info
what 3 other area does the cerebellum get info from
- visual and aut - colliculi
- vestibular apparatus
- proprioceptors
where does cerebellum output go (2)
- extraoccular for eye movements
2. medial and lateral descending paths for movement
** what happens for fine motor movements
decussates from cerebellum to dentate nucleus and decussates back to body (same side damage)
3 brainstem lesions that can mimick cerebellar
- midbrain at level of sup. colliculus
- lesion of lateral pons including cerebellar peduncle
- lesion of lateral aspoct of rostral medulla
** 5 key Sx of cerebellar lesions
- ataxia
- dysmetria
- intention tremor
- dysdiadokinesia
- nystagmus
what is ataxia
staggering wide base. lurching
what is dysmetria
failure in coordinating accuracy of movements - finger nose test
what is dysdiadokinesia
failure to maintain rate of movement - slow clap
what is nystagmus
back and forth eye movements
