Epi module 4 Flashcards
what is end construction of epi study
2x2 table with disease and exposure
look at the study design table
do it
def. RCT
experimental study to tests a specific question
Adv and DIS of RCT
ADV
- great method, allows causal effect
DIS
- expensive, narrow scope, limited to narrow questions
2 types of obs. studies
- descriptive
2. analystic
aim of descriptive studies
describe and gen. hypotheses
4 types of analytic studues
- ecological
- cohort
- case-control
- cross-sectional
def. ecological studies
look at various groups or georgraphic areas as a unit of study
def. case contol
chooses a sample of people with disease and compare to a group that is similar without
- then look back over time to see exposures
adv and dis of case control
adv - less expensive - good for rare outcomes dis - get bias in case sampling and measurment - recall bias
def. cohort study
follow group over time and look for exposures and outcomes
adv and dis of cohort
adv - exposures measured before so measurement bias reduced dis - don't know confounds - time and expensive - can't do for rare disease
2 types of cohort studies
- prospective
2. retrospective
def. cross-sectional
use single group and time point and look at both disease and exposure at same time
