A
use right hand to locate the side
hand on greater trocanter
make a triangle with 1st and 2nd finger on the anterior superior illiac spine
injection site is at center of triangle
(patient can lie on side or stand)

vastus lateralus
A
divide thigh into 3rds - horizontally and vertically. injection is given at outer middle 3rd of the thigh.

deltoid
A
can stand or sit. with non-dominant hand, place 2 or 3 fingers below cromium process. Then draw an imaginary triangle with point facing down. injection at mid-auxillary muscle.

steps for IM
A
hand hygiene and gloves. normal weight 22 gauge 1 inch needle.
hold skin taught with left hand.
dart at 90 degree angle
use non-dominant hand to hold needle
withdraw needle and activate safety
