Vertebrobasilar System: Basilar Artery Flashcards
Origin
At pons lower border by union of 2 vertebral arteries
Courses
Passes along pons basilar groove lying on occipital bone basilar part
End
At pons upper border by dividing into 2 posterior cerebral arteries
Branches
- Anterior inferior cerebellar artery
- Pontine branches
- Labyrinthine artery
- Superior cerebellar artery
- Posterior cerebral arteries
Anterior inferior cerebellar artery course
Passes lateral and backwards around pons lower border
Anterior inferior cerebellar artery end
Supply anterior part of cerebellum inferior surface and MCP
Anterior inferior cerebellar artery supply
Sometimes give labyrinthine artery
Pontine branches
- Paramedian
- Short circumferential
- Long circumferential
Paramedian supply
Basis Pontis median zone
Short circumferential
Basis pontis lateral zone
Long circumferential supply
Pons tegmentum
Labrythine artery
Accompany 7th and 8th cranial nerves into internal auditory meatus
Labrythine artery supply
Internal ear
Superior cerebellar artery
Passes around midbrain lower part reaching cerebellum superior surface
Superior cerebellar artery supply
- Superior cerebellar surface
