A
- ECA opposite tip of hyoid greater horn
- It may arise from common stem with facial artery

A
Divided by Hyoglossus into 3 parts

1st part
A
- From origin to posterior border Hyoglossus
- Either convex upwards or making S-shaped loop
- Lying on middle constrictor
- Crossed by hypoglossal nerve

2nd part
A
Runs forwards deep to Hyoglossus

3rd part
A
- Ascends along anterior border Hyoglossus
- Lying on genioglossus
- Crossed by lingual nerve and submandibular duct
- Enters tongue middle as deep artery of tongue (tortuous artery)
- Running forwards to tip
- Separated from mucosa of tongue lower surface by deep vein of tongue
- Supply anterior part tongue
- At tip, both lingual arteries anastomose
