Larynx: Ligaments, Membranes, And Folds Flashcards
Thyrohyoid membrane extent
Extends from upper border and superior horns of thyroid cartilage to upper part of posterior surface hyoid body and its greater horns
Thyrohyoid membrane parts
- Median thick part (thyrohyoid ligament)
- Lateral thin part
- Posterior cord-like part (lateral thyrohyoid ligament)
Lateral thin partb
Pierced by superior laryngeal vessels and internal laryngeal nerve
Lateral thyrohyoid ligament
Connects thyroid cartilage superior horn and hyoid greater horn
Ligaments and folds attached to epiglottis
- Hyoepiglottic and thryoepiglottic ligaments
- 3 glossoepiglottic folds
- 2 aryepiglottic folds
- Quadrangular membranes (ligaments)
Hyoepiglottic and thyroepiglottic ligaments
2 ligaments connecting epiglottis with hyoid body and thyroid cartilage
3 glossoepiglottic folds
One median and 2 lateral folds connecting epiglottis upper part to tongue root
2 aryepiglottic folds
Connect epiglottis sides to arytenoid apices
Quadrangular membranes
- Fibroelastic membrane
- Anterior: epiglottis sides
- Posterior: arytenoid cartilages
- Upper free border: forms aryepiglottic fold
- Lower free border: forms vestibular fold
Ligaments attached to cricoid cartilage
- Cricotracheal ligament
- Cricothyroid ligament
Cricotracheal ligament
Connects cricoid lower border to 1st tracheal ring
Cricothyroid ligament parts
- Median thick anterior part (cricothyroid ligament)
- Lateral thin part (cricovocal membrane)
Cricothyroid ligament part
Connects anterior parts of thyroid and cricoid cartilages
Cricovocal membrane part
- Below: attached to cricoid upper border
- Above: its upper border is free and thick
- It extends from from arytenoid vocal process to inner surface of thyroid cartilage angle (vocal fold or vocal ligament)
All larynx ligaments and membranes
All are extrinsic except Quadrangular and cricovocal ligaments are intrinsic
