Nose: Other Sinuses Flashcards
Other sinuses
- Frontal sinuses
- Ethmoidal sinus
- Sphenoidal sinus
Frontal sinus: site
2 asymmetrical sinuses (separated by bony septum, usually deviated to one side) in squamous part frontal bone, above and behind super ciliary arches
Frontal sinus: opening
In ethmoidal infundibulum (fronto-nasal duct) which opens in anterior end of hiatus semilunaris in middle meatus
Frontal sinus: nerve supply
- Supraoribital nerve
- Anterior ethmoidal nerve
Frontal sinus: arteries
Supraorbital artery
Frontal sinus: lymph
Submandibular lymph nodes
Ethmoidal sinus: site
Intercommunicating spaces (3-18 air cells arranged in 3 groups) in ethmoidal labyrinth (between orbit and nasal cavity
Ethmoidal sinus: opening
- Anterior ethmoidal sinus
- Middle ethmoidal sinus
- Posterior ethmoidal sinus
Anterior ethmoidal sinus
- In ethmoidal infundibulum
Or - In anterior end of hiatus semilunaris
In middle nasal meatus
Middle ethmoidal sinus
On bulls ethmoidalis in middle meatus
Ethmoidal sinus: nerve supply
Anterior and posterior ethmoidal nerves
Ethmoidal sinus: arteries
Anterior and posterior arteries
Sphenoidal sinus: site
In sphenoid body behind upper part nasal cavity (the 2 sinuses are separated by bony septum in midline or may be deviated to one side
Sphenoidal sinus: openings
In upper part of its anterior wall in sphenoethmoidal recess
Sphenoidal sinus: openings relations
Superior:
1. Pituitary gland
2. Optic chiasma
Posterior:
1. Pons
2. Basilar artery
Lateral (on both sides):
1. Cavernous sinus with ICA
2. Abducent nerve
