Emissary Veins Flashcards
1
Q
Definition
A
Valveless veins connecting Dural sinuses (inside skull) with veins in scalp and face (outside skull) passing through emissary foramina in skull
2
Q
Function
A
Equalize venous pressure between Dural sinuses and veins outside skull
3
Q
Clinical importance
A
They can transmit infection from outside skull to Dural sinuses inside skull causing septic thrombosis of sinuses as cavernous sinus thrombosis
4
Q
Site and distribution
A
- Veins connected to Superior sagittal sinus
- Veins connected to cavernous sinus
- Veins connected to sigmoid sinus
5
Q
