Meninges: Dura Mater Flashcards
1
Q
Dura mater
A
Dura outermost covering
2
Q
Dura mater site
A
- Firmly adherent to periosteum lining skull bones inner surface.
- Both layers cannot be separated from each other except at Dural venous sinuses sites
3
Q
Falx cerebri, Tentorium cerebelli, and Falx cerebelli
A
Dura mater becomes folded at certain sites forming double-layered septa between brain different parts
4
Q
Subdural space site
A
Between dura and arachnoid mater
5
Q
Subdural contents
A
Subdural serous fluid
6
Q
Extradural (epidural) space
A
- Restricted only to vertebral canal
- Spinal dura is not adherent to vertebral canal periosteum being separated from it by narrow epidural space
7
Q
Spinal epidural anesthesia
A
Local anesthesias injected into extradural space
8
Q
Dura mater investment
A
- Cranial dura becomes continuous with spinal dura at foramen magnum margin
- As cranial and spinal nerves leaves brain and spinal cord surface, they carry fine coverings of pia and arachnoid mater with them and finally acquire a dura mater investment
