Thryocervical Trunk Flashcards
1
Q
Thyrocervical trunk
A
Short trunk from 1st part subclavian artery close to scalenus anterior medial margin
2
Q
Branches
A
- Inferior thyroid artery
- Suprascapular artery
- Transverse cervical artery
3
Q
Inferior thyroid artery course
A
- Ascends along scalenus anterior medial border till C6 transverse process
- Curves medial in front of vertebral artery behind carotid sheath
- Reach thyroid gland posterior surface
- Finally, descends reaching gland inferior pole (closely related to recurrent laryngeal nerve which supplies all larynx muscles except circothyroid and larynx mucosa below vocal cords)
4
Q
Inferior thyroid artery branches
A
- Ascending cervical artery
- Inferior laryngeal artery
- Tracheal and esophageal arteries
- Glandular branches
5
Q
Ascending cervical artery
A
In front of scalenus anterior
6
Q
Glandular branches
A
Supply lower 2/3 of lobe (including base), lower 1/2 isthmus and parathyroids
7
Q
Suprascapular artery course and anastomosis
A
- Passes lateral in front of scalenus anterior
- Crosses posterior triangle lower part close to clavicle
- Share in anastomosis around scapula
8
Q
Transverse cervical artery
A
- Passes lateral in front scalenus anterior above Suprascapular artery
- Transverses posterior triangle
- Divides into 2 branches in relation to Levator scapulae:
- superficial branch
- deep branch
9
Q
Transverse cervical artery superficial branch
A
Supplies trapezius deep surface
10
Q
Transverse cervical artery deep branch
A
Descends along scapula medial border sharing in anastomosis around scapula
