Eyeball Develpment: Retina Flashcards
1
Q
Retina development
A
Develops from 2 layers of optic cup:
1. Inner layer
2. Outer layer
2
Q
Inner layer
A
- Directed towards cup concavity
- Much thickened to fork retina nervous layer (pars optics retinae) which gives rise to:
- rods and cones
- bipolar cells
- ganglionic cells
3
Q
Outer layer
A
- Directed away from cup concavity
- Remains single cell thick
- Becomes pigmented and forms retina pigmented layer
4
Q
Formation of iris and ciliary body by retina
A
Near cup edge, peripheral 1/5 of retina inner layer contributes to the formation of iris and ciliary body
5
Q
Inner and outer layers are first separated by?
A
Space (intraretinal space) which is rapidly obliterated by fusion of the 2 layers
