Eyelids Flashcards
1
Q
Point of unity of eyelids
A
Lateral and medial elliptical space which appears between their margins is called palpebral fissure
2
Q
Structure: superficial to deep (7)
A
- Skin
- Superficial fascia
- Palpebral part of orbicularis oculi
- Loose connective tissue layer
- Tarsus
- Tarsal glands
- Conjunctiva
3
Q
Skin
A
Very thin
4
Q
Superficial fascia (3)
A
- Very lax
- Delicate
- Devoid of fat
5
Q
Palpebral part of orbicularis oculi (2)
A
- Thin
- Parallel to palpebral fissure
6
Q
Loose connective tissue layer (3)
A
- Deep to orbicularis oculi
- Contains many nerves and vessels of the eyelid
- Local anesthesia injecting site
7
Q
Tarsus (2)
A
- Elongated plate of dense fibrous tissue giving form and support
- Medial and lateral ends are connected by medial and lateral palpebral ligaments
8
Q
Tarsal glands (2)
A
- Yellowish glands arranged in single row around 30 in upper lid and few in lower lid embedded in deep groove tarsus posterior surface
- Oily secretion prevent lacrimal fluid overflow on cheek
9
Q
Conjunctiva (6)
A
- Transparent mucous membrane lining upper and lower eyelids
- It is reflected over front of sclera
- Line of reflection above: superior fornix
- Line of reflection below: inferior fornix
- Superior fornix receive lacrimal gland ducts.
- Over sclera, conjunctiva is loosely connected to eyeball and on reaching cornea it continues as corneal epithelium
