Pharynx
Funnel shaped muscular tube (wide above 3.5 cm and narrow below 1.5 cm) 5 inches long closed posterior and on sides extending from skull base to C6 vertebra to become esophagus

Posterior wall
- Upper 6 cervical vertebrae
- Prevertebral muscles and fascia
- Retropharyngeal space (containing retropharyngeal lymph nodes)
Anterior wall
(Deficient)
Pharynx lies behind nasal, oral, and laryngeal cavities communicating with them
Side (lateral) wall
- Carotid sheath (along all length)
- Styloid process and its muscles (in upper part)
- Thyroid lobe (in lower part)

5. Buccopharyngeal fascia
Atrial supply
- Ascending palatine
Facial artery - Pharyngeal branch
Maxillary artery - Ascending pharyngeal

Pharyngeal plexus except Stylopharyngeus by Glossopharyngeal nerve
Nerve supply: sensory

Waldery’s ring (4 parts)
Lymphoid tissue aggregation at GIT and respiratory tract entrance:
1. Nasopharyngeal tonsil

4. Lingual tonsil
