Lacrimal Apparatus Flashcards
1
Q
Lacrimal apparatus is divided into: (4)
A
- Lacrimal gland
- Lacrimal canaliculi
- Lacrimal sac
- Nasolacrimal duct
2
Q
Parts of lacrimal gland (2)
A
- Large orbital part lying in lacrimal fossa (anterolateral part of orbital roof) above Levator palpebrae superioris muscle
- Small palpebral part lying below the muscle
3
Q
Lacrimal glands short ducts number and site
A
- 10-12 short ducts
- Open in lateral part of superior conjunctival fornix
4
Q
Lacrimal gland innervation (2)
A
- Greater superficial petrosal nerve (facial nerve)
- Lacrimal nerve
5
Q
Greater superficial petrosal nerve relay and course
A
- Relay in sphenopalatine ganglion
- Postganglionic fibers join maxillary nerve
- Pass in its zygomatic nerve
- Then into zygomaticotemporal nerve
- Then through a communicating ramus to lacrimal nerve which supplies the gland
6
Q
Lacrimal canaliculi site
A
- Two canaliculi for each eyelid
- Runs in corresponding eyelid edge
- Extending from lacrimal puncture at the top of lacrimal papilla and draining tears into lacrimal sac
7
Q
Lacrimal sac site
A
Lacrimal groove in anterior part of orbit medial wall
8
Q
Upper blind end of lacrimal sac
A
Fundus
9
Q
Lower end of lacrimal sac
A
Continuous with nasolacrimal duct
10
Q
Nasolacrimal duct course
A
- Starts from lacrimal sac
- Passes downwards inside Nasolacrimal canal
- Open at anterior part of inferior nasal meatus
