Larynx: Paired Cartilages Flashcards
1
Q
Paired cartilages
A
- Arytenoid
- Corniculate and cuneiform cartilages
2
Q
Arytenoid
A
- Pyramidal shaped hyaline cartilages lying on cricoid cartilage lamina
- Each has:
- apex
- base
- surfaces
3
Q
Apex
A
- Directed upwards, backwards, and medial articulating with corniculate cartilage
- Gives attachment to aryepiglottic fold
4
Q
Base
A
- Triangular shaped
- Articulating with upper border of cricoid cartilage lamina by synovial joint
- Has two processes:
- vocal
- muscular
5
Q
Vocal process
A
- Anterior angle of base
- Gives attachments to vocal ligament
6
Q
Muscular process
A
- Lateral angle of base
- Gives attachment to 3 muscles
7
Q
Surfaces
A
- Anterolateral surface: concave
- Medial surface: flat and covered with mucous membrane
- Posterior surface: concave and smooth
8
Q
Corniculate and cuneiform cartilages
A
- Small elastic fibrocartilage nodules
- Lying in posterior part of aryepiglottic fold
- Cuneiform lie in front of corniculates which articulate with arytenoid apices
