- Constrictors of pharynx
1,2,3,4 deep to ECA
Superficial to ICA (between ICA and ECA
Superior thryoid artery course
- ECA anterior aspect below tip of hyoid greater horn
- Descends downwards and forwards (closely related to external laryngeal nerve which supplies circothyroid) deep to infrahyoid muscles
- Towards gland apex
- Divides into terminal branches anterior and posterior
Superior thyroid artery branches
- Infrahyoid artery
- Superior laryngeal artery
- Muscular branches
- Glandular branches (anterior and posterior)
Infrahyoid artery
Runs along hyoid lower border anastomosing with opposite artery
Superior laryngeal artery
Pierces thyrohyoid membrane with internal laryngeal nerve to supply larynx
Muscular branches superior thyroid artery
- Sternomastoid muscle
- Circothyroid muscle
Glandular branches
Upper 1/3 lobe (including apex)and upper 1/2 isthmus
