Larynx Flashcards
1
Q
Larynx
A
Air tube belonging to respiratory system
2
Q
Extent
A
Extending from tongue root and epiglottis upper border (C3 vertebra) to cricoid cartilage lower border (C6 vertebra)
3
Q
Skeleton
A
Consists of 9 cartilages (3 single and 3 paired) connected by ligaments, membranes, and folds
4
Q
Nerve supply
A
- Recurrent laryngeal nerve
- Superior laryngeal nerve
5
Q
Recurrent laryngeal nerve
A
Motor: all muscles except cricothyroid
Sensory: mucosa below vocal cords
6
Q
Superior laryngeal nerve
A
Divides into:
1. External laryngeal nerve: supplies circothyroid muscle
2. Internal laryngeal nerve:
- pierces thyrohyoid membrane
- supplies mucosa above vocal cords and epiglottis
7
Q
Blood supply
A
- Superior laryngeal artery
- Inferior laryngeal artery
8
Q
Superior laryngeal artery
A
- Arises from superior thyroid artery
- Pierces thyrohyoid membrane with internal laryngeal nerve
- Supply larynx upper part
9
Q
Inferior laryngeal artery
A
- Arises from inferior artery
- Ascends with recurrent laryngeal nerve below inferior constrictor lower border
- Supply larynx lower part
