Ear: Vestibulocochlear Nerve Flashcards
1
Q
Vestibulocochlear nerve
A
- 8th cranial nerve
- 2 combined nerves (cochlear and vestibular) which enters brain stem in ponto-cerebellar angle
- It divides at internal auditory meatus into large anterior part (cochlear nerve) and small posterior part (vestibular nerve)
2
Q
Vestibular nerve
A
Formed by:
Central processes of bipolar cells of vestibular ganglion:
lies in internal auditory meatus bottom
2. Peripheral processes:
pass to vestibular end organs in utricle, saccule, and semicircular ducts
3
Q
Vestibular nerve relay
A
Enters brain stem to relay in vestibular nuclei responsible for equilibrium
4
Q
Cochlear nerve
A
Formed by:
1. Central processes of bipolar cells of spiral ganglion:
lies in spiral canal of cochlea
2. Peripheral processes:
pass to hair cells of organ of corti
5
Q
Cochlear nerve relay
A
Enters brain stem to relay in ventral and dorsal cochlear nuclei responsible for hearing sense
