Ear Development: External Ear Flashcards
1
Q
External ear
A
- Auricle
- External auditory meatus
- Tympanic membrane
2
Q
Auricle origin
A
Mesoderm
3
Q
Auricle development
A
- Mesoderm proliferation at 1st pharyngeal cleft entrance
- 6 mesodermal swellings fuse together forming auricle
4
Q
External auditory meatus development
A
- From 1st pharyngeal cleft which grows inwards to end at tympanic membrane
- At first, meatus bottom is filled proliferated epithelial cells forming meatal plugs which dissolve by 7th month
5
Q
Tympanic membrane
A
- Outer layer
- Inner layer
- Intermediate layer
6
Q
Tympanic membrane: outer layer
A
- Ectodermal
- Belongs to 1st pharyngeal cleft
7
Q
Tympanic membrane: inner layer
A
- Endodermal
- Belongs to tubotympanic recess derived from 1st pharyngeal pouch
8
Q
Tympanic membrane: intermediate layer
A
- Mesodermal
- Derives from mesoderm interposed between 1st cleft and 1st pouch
