Cervical Fascia: Superficial Flashcards
Cervical fascia
Thin layer of fascia embedded in the following structures:
1. Platysma
2. Superficial veins
3. Cutaneous nerves
4. Superficial cervical lymph nodes
Platysma
Broad muscle sheet
Platysma origin
Deep fascia covering deltoid and Pectoralis major
Platysma insertion
Lower border of mandible body:
1. Blend with mouth angle muscles
2. Interlace with opposite side
Platysma nerve supply
Cervical branch of facial nerve
Platysma action
- Assists in mandible depression
- Depresses mouth angle
- Wrinkles neck skin
Superficial veins
External jugular vein and its tributaries
Cutaneous nerves
Cutaneous branches of cervical plexus:
1. Great auricular nerve
2. Lesser occipital nerve
3. Transverse cutaneous nerve neck
4. Supraclavicular nerves
Superficial cervical lymph nodes
- Superficial to sternomastoid along EJV
- Receive lymph from occipital and mastoid lymph node
- Drain in deep cervical lymph node
