Larynx: Muscles Flashcards
Muscles
- Muscles close inlet
- Muscles stretch vocal cords
- Muscles relax vocal cords
- Muscles adduct vocal cords
- Muscles abduct cords
Muscles close inlet
- Transverse arytenoid
- Oblique arytenoids
- Aryepiglottic
Transverse arytenoid
- Single muscle
- Covers posterior surfaces of both arytenoids
- Extends between their lateral margins
Oblique arytenoids
- 2 muscles
- Cross each other like letter X
- Lie in superificial to transverse arytenoid
- Extends from posterior surface of muscular process one arytenoid to other arytenoid apex
Aryepiglottic
- Prolongation of oblique arytenoid into aryepiglottic fold
- Arises from arytenoid apex and inserts into epiglottis side
Muscles stretch vocal cord
- Cricothyroid
- Vocalis (anterior part)
Cricothyroid
From anterolateral aspect of cricoid arch to thyroid cartilage lower border and inferior horn
Vocalis (anterior part)
- Lateral to vocal cord and
- Stretches anterior part
Muscles relax vocal cord
- Thyroarytenoid
- Vocalis posterior part
Thyroarytenoid
From lower 1/2 of inner surface thyroid cartilage angle to arytenoid anterolateral surface
Vocalis posterior part
Relaxed cord posterior part
Muscles adduct vocal cords
- Lateral cricoarytenoid
- Transverse arytenoid
- Cricothyroid
Lateral cricoarytenoid
From superior surface of cricoid arch to anterior surface of arytenoid muscular process
Muscles abduct cords
Posterior cricoarytenoid
Posterior cricoarytenoid
From posterior surface cricoid lamina to posterior surface of arytenoid muscular process
