- Branch from 1st part maxillary artery

- Ascends deep to lateral pterygoid between Auriculotemporal nerve 2 roots
- Enters middle cranial fossa via foramen spinosum
- Passes forwards and laterally shortly 2cm in a groove on its floor

By dividing into anterior and posterior terminal branches

A
- Line 2cm upwards and forwards
- From middle of zygomatic arch
Then divide into 2 lines

1. Line upwards and forwards towards pterion

2. Backwards and towards midway between nasion and inion
Upper part of artery is 1 finger breath behind coronal suture and 1 finger breath in front of brain central sulcus
