Q

Choroid plexuses in ventricle sites

A
  1. One in central part floor of each lateral ventricle
  2. One in inferior horn medial wall of each lateral ventricle
  3. Pair in roof of each of 3rd and 4th ventricle

Q

Drainage

A

After circulation:
1. It drains out from 4th ventricle through 3 apertures found in roof reaching subarachnoid space:
- 1 median
- 2 lateral
2. It then flows over brain and spinal cord surfaces

Q

Absorption

A

CSF finally leaves subarachnoid space by means of arachnoid villi and granulations to drain in Dural venous sinuses

Q

Functions

A
  1. Takes lymph place in CNS which is devoid of lymph vessels
  2. Acts as protective water cushion in subarachnoid space, it protects the brain and spinal cord and minimize shock effects
  3. Intracranial pressure regulation
  4. Reduces brain weight 30 folds

Q

Amount

A

Average amount in adults is about 135cc
It is constantly absorbed and produced in rate of 400-500cc daily (renewed 3 times daily)

Q

Obstruction leads to

A

Obstruction to its normal passage especially at narrow foramina and canal causes:
1. Increased intracranial pressure
2. Ventricles dilatation (hydrocephalus)
