serology - differential ELISA (gene-deleted vaccine vs infection) & serum neutralization (standard)

no specific treatment - fatal in neonates
supportive care/abx to control secondary bacterial infections
eradication
how is pseudorabies prevented?
vaccination of all pigs in a herd using the gene deleted vaccine to decrease viral shedding & clinical signs associated with disease
what is the prognosis for pseudorabies in piglets? what about older pigs?
piglets - grave for under 7 days old
poor for older pigs with concurrent secondary infections/neurologic signs
good for most older pigs without complicated disease recover but most will become carriers
