spread via biting insects - especially horse flies & deer flies

lentivirus, retroviridae family - related to HIV, so life long infection

COGGINS AGID!!! or ELISA
what is the prognosis for EIA?
grave, infected for life - either euthanize or keep isolated forever 200 yards away from other equid species
how is EIA prevented?
annual testing, euthanasia/quarantine of affected horses, & fly control
