Types of Muscles and joints Flashcards
What re the examples of a hinge joint?
Elbow, ankle and knee. Only allow forward and back movements
What are the examples of a ball and socket joint?
Hip and shoulder
what type of movements can be at the shoulder?
extension/flexicion
abbudicton/adduction
rotation
circumnduction
What type of movements can be at the ankle?
Plantar/dorsi flexion
What is an example of a pivot joint/
Only allowed rotational movement, neck
What is plantar flexion?
Movement between he gastrocnemius and soles
Gastrocnemius and Soleus (Agonist) and Tibialis Anterior (Antagonist)
What is flexion at the knee?
Biceps Femoris (Agonist) and Rectus Femoris (Antagonist) Fixator - Gluteus Maximus
What is dorsi flexion?
Movement analysis Dorsi Flexion is bending the foot upwards towards the Tibia. i. e. - Action of pulling up toes towards the body.
What is adduction?
Movement towards midline of the body
What is abbduction?
Movement away from midline of th body
What is horizontal flexion?
Movement analysis Horizontal flexion: Movement of the arm across the body in the horizontal (transverse) plane.
What is horizontal extension?
Movement analysis Horizontal extension: Movement of the arm away from the body in the horizontal (transverse) plane
What joint is used for flexion fo the shoulder?
Anterior deltoid
What joint is reposnbile for extension joint for shoulder?
Posterior deltoid
What joint is repsobilbe for adduction at the shoulder?
Latissimus dorsi
What joint at the shoulder is responsible for abduction?
Middle deltoid
What joint does the shoulder use at horizontal flexion?
pectorals major
What joint does the shoulder use for horizontal extension?
Posterior deltoid
What joint is used for medial rotation of the shoulder- transverse?
Medial Rotation Teres Major Subscapularis
What joint at the shoulder Is used for lateral rotation?
Teres Minor Infraspinatous
What plane is the elbow?
Saggital, flexion- uses the bicep brachii
extension-tricep brachii
What type of joint is the wrist?
Condyloid
flxion- wrist flexors
extension- wrist extensors
What movements do the hips create?
Ball and socket joint
flexion- illiposas
extension- gluteus Maximus
What muscles does the hip use for adduction?
Adduction brevis
Magnus
longus
What muscles do the hips use for abductopn?
Gluteus maximus
Gluteus medius
gluteus minimus
What does the knee use for flexion?
Biceps femoris semitendinous and semimembranosus concentrically contract.
What muscles do the knee use for extension?
rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius and vastus medialis.
What is the all or none law
Characteristics of a Motor Unit A minimum amount of stimulation is required to start a muscle contraction. If an impulse is strong enough then all the muscle fibres in a motor unit will contract. However, if the impulse is less than the threshold required then no muscle action will occur.
Wgar are the muscles used for doors flexion?
Tibilas anterior
How is the ball and socket joint made up of in a synovial joint?
Allows a lot of range of motion, the round head of one bone fits into the cups shaped capsule of the connecting bone
