What was social class like?
Still a class system and has impacts on participation in sport, less obvious
How is sport now associated?
Football was associated with WC but now there are more players from all classes
Hilsboorugh distaste led to Taylor report, which lead to all modernisation of football stadiums, making them all-seater lead to more middle class supporters

What are the arguments for amateurism?
Values- preserve amateur values (fair play)
Olympic ideals, excellence determination
Maintain independence- of sport from media influences
What are the arguments for professionalism?
Undermines amateur ethos and sporting vaukes
Creates a win at all costys
Commercial presses and oppurnutes lead to deviant behviour

Commoditisation reduces control of sport by the sport itself
What ate the statistics for people 16 and over?
Participation is greater from higher socio- economic groups 38.7 %compated to 25.7% from manual and unemployed socio economic groups
What are the statistic for women football supporters?
23%, 11% of all footballs are form black majority
What impact does social class have on participation of 21st century sport?
Finance- less likely to afford facilities/ equipment due
educATIO- people from lower class cant afford coaching/no competition in state schools
role models- lack of working class role models in sport for lower socio economic
elite players- elite players are more likely to come from higher social economic groups; gb olympic team
stereotyped sports- individual sports can be perceived as upper or lower class
stacking- young people may be ecnorugaed into sports that match their socio economic group
what are the strategies to try and limit the difference and the class I sports?
Ngb strategies- plan to strengthen links between state schools and clubs
imporvement- the gap in participation between lower and higher society economic groups has narrowed since 20th century
