Q

Examples of externally paced skills

A

Iceskating, dancing, aerobics and gymnastics

19
Q

What is a simple skill

A

Few decisions to be made, usually/ taught or learnt. may be repetitive in nature

20
Q

Examples of simple skills

A

throwing, running, catching, jumping

21
Q

What is a complex skill

A

A skill that a lot of decision are to be made, normally have to be learnt in stages

22
Q

Examples of a complex skill

A

Serving in tennis, throwing discus, vault in gymnastics, lay up shot in basketball

23
Q

What is a low organisation skill

A

made up of sub routines that can be easily separated by themselves and practiced

24
Q

examples of low organisation skills

A

conversion kicks, penalties

25
Q

what is a high organisation skill?

A

Nit easily broken down in sub routines, difficult to separate without disrupting skills. Practiced as a whole

26
Q

Examples of a high organisation skill?

A

Golf swing, high jump, breast stroke, running

27
Q

What are the 6 classification of skill continua?

A

Environmental influences

Musucular involvement

Pacing

Organisation

Difficulty
Continuity

28
Q

What are the extremes of each of the 6 continua?

A
Open/closed
Gross/fine
High/low organisation
Externallu/internally
Simple/complex
Discrete/serial/continous
29
Q

What is a practical example of an open skill?

A

Passing a football, dribbling in hockey

30
Q

What is a practical example of a closed skill?

A

Gymnastic vault, archery (not affected by environment)- habitual, self paced

31
Q

What is an example of a self paced skilL?

A

High jump, penalty in football (normally closed)

32
Q

What is an example of an externally paced skill?

A

Rugby tackle, passing in netball- environment dictates, usually open

33
Q

What is an example of a gross skill?

A

Rugby tackle, weight lifting

34
Q

What is an example of a fine skill?

A

Archery, shooting, darts

35
Q

What is an example of a discrete skill?

A

Rugby pass- clear beginning and end

36
Q

What is an example of a serial skill?

A

Triple jump, basketball lay up

37
Q

What is an example of a continuous skill?

A

Cycling, no clear beginning and end

38
Q

What is an example of a high organisation?

A

Forward roll, badminton serve (can’t easily be broken down int sub routines)

39
Q

What is an example of low organisation skills?

A

Front crawl, tennis serve- can easily be broken down into sub routines

40
Q

What is an example of a simple skill?

A

100m sprint- little decisions to be made

41
Q

What is an example of a complex skill?

A

Passing in netball/hockey

42
Q

What is a task analysis?

A
When a coach places one skill on the six continua to see how they can teach the skill
front crawl
ei- closed
mi- gross
p-self paced (except for start)
C- Continous
o- low
d-simple
43
Q

How could the front crawl coach use the 6 continua as an analysis?

A

As it is a continous skill, distributed practice is best
Closed- coach should use a fixed practice environment
Gross- power rather than accuracy
Low org- can be broken down into part praxtice0 whole any (reduce complexity for beginners)
Simple- little dsicions so coach knows can give more info without overloading learner
