Skill acquisition feedback Flashcards
What is positive feedback?
Given externally by the coach to enhance performer, helps strengthen the s-r bond help motivate cognitive and associative performers when learning new skills
What is negative feedback?
Coach uses punishment to enhance the performer, received when the movement is incorrect. Can be extrinsic/ intrinsic. Mostly used for autonomous performers
What is intrinsic feedback?
Form of sensory feedback/kinaesthesia feedback. Autonomous performers use this to correct their own fluency and timing, feedback is immediate and accurate. Unsuitable for cognitive/associative performers who are reliant on extrinsic feedback. Hear verbal feedback fro the coach
What is extrinsic feedback?
Can be referred to as augmented feedback, things that the performer can hear or see (watching a performance back on a video)
What is knowledge of the performance?
Concerns the quality of the movement (can be internal), can be motivational. How well the performer played
What is knowledge of results?
Performer knowing the outcome of their results, important as it can make athletes learn from their mistakes.
What are the negative factors about positive feedback?
Can lead to demotivation, if undeserved praise can lead to incorrect s-r bond
What are the negatives about negative feedback?
If too much negative feedback can lead to demotivation, shouldn’t be used with cognitive and associative performers as they can’t improve
What are the negatives about intrinsic feedback?
Unsuitable for cognitive snd associative performers as they rely on extrinsic feedback from their coaches
What are the negatives about extrinsic feedback?
Does not encourage development of kinaesthesis
Incorrect can lead to negative transfer
Poor feedback can lead to a lack of motivation
What are the negatives of knowledge of knowledge of performance?
Can only be used with autonomous performers
can demotivate if used incorrectly
What are the negatives of knowledge of result?
Can demotivate if used incorrectly
