During enforced rest/or after on bruise surrounding injury site (sub acute stage only after 48 hours)
When should massage therapy only be used?
In the sub acute stage and beyond
When is the deep friction massage mostly used?
Used for treaetments of muscles/tendons/ligaments/joint capsules
What is the main goal of massage therapy?
restoring mobility to soft tissue in the same way as joint mobilisation/stretching and aims to increase range of motion
sometimes comes before active exercise in rehbilation
What dont we use massage therapy on?
Ruptures (ligament/tendon) contusions, open wounds as it can increase bleeding and increase complications
What are the physiological benefits?
Increases criculation and blood flow to increase 02 nutrient delivery to fatigued muscles/damaged tissues which increases healing and removal or waste prodcuts
warms and midly streches soft tissues decreases tension and pressure which decreases pain and increases elasticity of joint
increases breakdowns of knots
What are the psycholgoical benefits of massage?
Increases mood state and relaxation and decreases fatigue feeling
