A

Took place in Olympia grieve before the birth of christ from the 8th century BC to the fourth century AD.
Only free men who spoke greek could compete
They were festival combining sport, religion and music
Fewer events were available eg. wresting chariot racing, javelin

A

DR William penny brooks founded the wedlock Olympic Games in 1850 his aim was to; promote moral, physical and intellectual improvement of the inhabitants of the town. His vision was to establish an international sporting festival. 1889 invited de Coubertin to visit much wedlock games and he was inspired

A

The first games for athletes with disability were held in 1948in stoke Mandeville in England.
Due to the pioneering work of Dr Ludwig Guttman with soldiers who were injured in ww2.
They were held on the same day as the opening ceremony for the 1948 Olympic Games in London

A

Hitler wanted to use the games as s world stage for propaganda for the third reich. Germany was a superior empire. The German superstar was blonde haired long jumper Lutz Lang who was the model image of the aryan race.

What was the human rights in Mexico?

A

Mexico city 1968- ‘black power’ demonstration. South Africa had their invitation to the Mexico olympics withdrawn due to countries threatening to boycott the games if they took part. Boycott didn’t continue but world class sprinter Tommie smith and John carlos protested, making ‘black power salute’. Did it for civil rights in USA FOR BLACK AMERICANS.

A

Munich 1972 Palestinian terroism. Day before opening of the Munich Olympic Games a Palestinian terroist group known as ‘black September’ entered olympic village and took 11 Israeli olympic team hostage. Demaded release of 234 palestians .
