drive theory Flashcards

1
Q

What is drive theory?

A

A linear relationship between performance and arosual,
as arousal increases so does performance
as arousal increases the likelihood of the dominant response goes up

Q

What are the key points of arosual?

A

Arousla depends on how well the skill has been learnt
motor programmes already learnt are the dominant response
dominant response most likely to occur when performance increases in arousal
beahviour= habit x drive

Q

Waht is the effect of high arousal on experts?

A

Would have overall a positive effect as more likely to be inflicted by a correct dominant response that is fluent and correct

Q

What does a high arousal do for gross skills?

A

Good for gross skills as tend need to need higher arousal and simle skills

Q

What is the drives theory for autonomous performers?

Q

what are the positives of drive theory?

A

Simple to understand
Accrate for some performers in some situations
probably more accurate for gross skills for experts (as need increase in arousal)
and probably moe accurate for fine skills for movies (as decrease in arosual)
helps teachers and coaches understand the relationship between arosual and performance

Q

what are the negatives of drive theory?

A

Individual relationship is too simplistic
doesn’t take into account personality type
doesn’t explain decline in performance at very high arousal (catastrophe)
doesn’t explain wy some experts perform well at low aorusal- maybe fine skills
doesn’t account for drive reduction theory (repeated goal set)
