treatment methods stretching Flashcards
What is the treatment method of stretching good for?
Maintaining/increasing a joints range of motion- passive/active
What is the acute stage of strecthing?
P.RIce and rest 2/3 days
depends upon the sverity of the injuyr
What are the benefits of acute stage streching?
the rest allows healing process to take place, no activity or any movement to prevent further damage
What is the sub acute stage of streching?
Light/gradual (active/passive) stretching and heat therapy 3 days- 2 weelks gradually increase number of sessions increase tension/stretch increase range of motion
What are the benefits of sub acute stage of stretching to increase/maintain performers range of motion?
Decrease inflammation/pain and beleeding
reinstatges and lengthens elastic properties of muscle and ct’s
joint range ofmotion increases recovery
dont use ballistic streching, pnf or isometric or isometric
What is the early- mid rehab stage to main streching/flexiblity?
Continued static active and passive stretching
NOW pnf streching
week 3-4
range of motion, strength and co ordination exercies (agnoist, antagonist are focussed on)
What are the benefitsof the early-mid rehab stage?
Pnf stretching decreases stretch reflex mahcnism
increases range of motion without tissue scarring making sure not to decrease elasticity
decreasespain senseation
increases strength of muscle
dont do any full acitivut funtioning exercises
What is the last rehbilation method of streching to maintain range of motion?
Increase and incroportae developmental stretching (static and pnf) to increase stretch relfex
increase functional focus NOW via active/dynamic stretching of injured area/joint
week 4-5
increase range of motion and strength exercises
What are the benefitsof full rehabiltation plan for stretching?
Developmental streching increases the whole range of motion and strength of muscle
makesit less likely for injury to reoccur
fully functioning activity/exericse prior to inclusion back to acitivy and training
