Lifestyle diseases Flashcards
What is artherosclerosis?
Build up of plaque deposits (lipids and cholesterol) within inner arterial walls
Narrowing of blood vessel walls (lumen which»_space; resistance to blood flow
Artery walls become hardr and less elastic
» blood pressure and risk of hypertension
Reduces ability to vaso dilate and vast constraint and control np
Decreed efficiency of vascular shunt
How is a heart attack caused?
02 supply to the heart is cut off or impaired, plaque breaks off and causes larger blockage means restrict o2 to smaller area causing angina (smaller heart attack)
If plaque causes a severe total clot t in a large corona artery restricts 02 to larger area causing heart attack
How is a stroke caused?
02 supply to the part of the brain is cut off or impaired?
What is ischaemic stroke?
Blood clot/ blockage occurring in a cerebral artery of the brain
Whats the haemorrhagic stroke?
Burst blood vessel within or on the surface of the brain
What are the recommended guidelines for preventing heart attacks?
FITT
Frequency 3-5 days ideally every day Intensity- moderate- walking, jogging higher intensity provide greater time- 30 mins a day aerobic whole body activity
What the diet requirements for preventing a heart attack?
healthy diet «_space;lipids and bad cholesterol
smoking
What are the positives of training on the heart
decreased strain on the heart 35% lower risk of cod >>efficiency of airways, increases elasticity means vasodilation and vasoconstriction is easier >>density of lipoptoyrin prevents hardening of arterial walls <>circulation around heart
What are the positives of training for the vascular?
decreased strain on the heart 35% lower risk of cod >>efficiency of airways, increases elasticity means vasodilation and vasoconstriction is easier >>density of lipoptoyrin prevents hardening of arterial walls <>circulation around heart
What are the negatives of training?
Can increase risk of heart attack
Very high blood pressure
strain on the cardio vascular
CHd cant be cured through exercise, may be heredity. Age risks increases
What is asthma?
Inflammatory response causing a reversible narrowing of the respiratory airways (branch)
What are the symptoms of asthma?
Hyper-Irritable airways/coughing
What are the benefits of training for asthma,?
Increases the size and number of alveoli meaning better gaseous exchnage
Increase number of capillaries better efficiency of vasodilation and vasoconstriction
Increase strength of respiratory muscles
Increase air flow in an our of the ones
Improve elasticity and efficiency
