A&P - Chapter 1 (Part 4) Flashcards
What are the 6 different types of body planes?
- Sagittal plane
- mid sagittal - Frontal plane
- coronal - Transverse plane
- Cross section
- Oblique section
- Longitudinal section
Sagittal plane
Lengthwise plane that divides the sides into right and left sections
- doesnt have to be to exact equal parts
Midsagittal plane
Lengthwise plane that divides the body into two equal halves
Frontal (coronal) plane
Lengthwise plane that divides the body into anterior and posterior sections
- front and back
Transverse plane
Horizontal plane that divides the body into upper and lower sections
Where should you base the cutting plane?
On the organ itself
- not the body
- everyone is different
- eg) kidney would be tilted compared to the body
Cross section
A cut along a plane parallel with the short axis of an organ
- similar to transverse
Oblique section
A diagonal cut through an organ
Longitudinal section
A cut along the axis of an organ
- similar to sagittal
