Soils of Germany Flashcards
What is the soil of Mosel?
The soils of the Mosel are composed primarily of Devonian blue slate, which provides beneficial drainage as well as heat retention. Certain parts of the Mosel, however, especially around Erden and Ürzig, are characterized instead by iron-rich Devonian red slate.
What is the soil of Pfalz?
Pfalz soils are extremely varied and complex, with layers of red sandstone, calcium-based limestone, loess, red slate, basalt, igneous granite and alluvial gravel.
What is the soil of Rheingau?
Soils in the Rheingau are varied. Slate dominates the upper slope vineyads, whereas the lower vineyards closer to the water contain a mixture of clay, loess, quartzite, alluvial sand and red slate.
