अपीष्ट (?) adj.

A

अपीष्ट (?) would seem to be PPP of अपि + VI √इष् = ‘very dear, much beloved’ BUT THIS IS [ND]. THIS IS HOW JHA (P. 379) TAKES IT:
“Generally, the impulse of grief, though subsided (with the passage of time) or faded completely, gets aggravated on the sight of an intimate friend (वाऽपिष्टदर्शनात् ).”
\
LIT. (?) “As a result of the sight of (a) dear friend(s), an extreme grief (‘sorrow-upset’) of/for living creatures will/would generally grow/become/arise again, {{{although it has reached slowness or has vanished (or ‘been destroyed’) [PREVIOUSLY] }}} .”
\
SEE B&K’S NOTE AD LOC HERE: THIS WHOLE COUPLET IS UNGRAMMATICAL AND UNCLEAR. AS B+K SAY: “The construction of this sloka is ungrammatical. The participles of the first line ought to stand in the genitive plural.” BUT I AM NOT SURE THEY ARE RIGHT ABOUT THIS.
\
VI √इष् cl.6 P., Epic and Vedic or Veda also A1. ic-ch/ati- (subjunctive icchāt- ), icchate- (; imperfect tense aicchat-, iyeṣa-and īṣe-, eṣiṣyate-, aiṣīt-, eṣitum-or eṣṭum-)

A

IT’S OBVIOUS NOW. BUT THE FIRST TIME YOU READ THIS YOU WERE CONFUSED:
जीवतो = जीवतः = GEN. SG. MASC. PRES. ACT. PPL.जीवन्त् FROM √जीव् ‘to live’
\
SO THE COUPLET IS:
“When the time of death has arrived, if the sight of a friend should occur, then it produces happiness for both afterwards - both for the living (friend) and the (friend) who has died.”
