गृहमध्यनिखातेन … वयम् ॥१४९॥
गृहमध्यनिखातेन … वयम् ॥१४९॥
FOR THE SENSE OF THIS COUPLET, SEE B&K’S NOTE @ ‘II+III.P.81 - OSTENSIBLY (AND MISTAKENLY) REFERENCING THE PRECEDING COUPLET (148) ON THE PREVIOUS PAGE. THE IDEA IS THIS:
“If the rich (are rich) by virtue of wealth buried in the middle of their houses, then let us be (i.e. consider ourselves) rich with that very same wealth.” IN OTHER WORDS, NEITHER WE NOR THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS ACTUALLY EVER USE THIS BURIED WEALTH, SO WE MIGHT AS WELL CONSIDER OURSELVES RICH NO LESS THAN THEY DO FOR ALL IT MATTERS WHEN STORED UP WEALTH IS NEVER USED BUT ONLY HOARDED.

उपार्जितानामर्थानां … इवाम्भसाम् ॥१५०॥
उपार्जितानामर्थानां … इवाम्भसाम् ॥१५०॥
THE SENSE OF THE COUPLET IS…
“The abandonment of acquired wealth (through generosity and charitable giving) is like the protection (of it) - just like a drain for waters stored in the belly of a storage tank/pond.”
THE IDEA IS LIKE THAT OF THE SEA OF GALILEE VS. THE DEAD SEA
