Who do the alarm companies call?
The alarm company has to get a hold of 2 different people when there is an alarm AFTER they have contacted the fire department if it is a fire alarm. The first # is to Off Campus Properties. If it is after hours or the weekend, they call the after hours number. They then call Bradley Police. No one will show up at the location called in unless we call and ask them to.
Where and what are the Fire and Burglar Alarm procedures for St James?
You can find this information in the red emergency book under “St James”. It is also in your training manual. A fire alarm comes in on the police phone from the alarm company. They should have already notified fire. They will give you the address and a zone. The zone should be the apartment #. You need to be sure to confirm that fire is enroute. Send 2 officers and let them know that fire has been dispatched.

Where does St James have intrusion/burglar alarms set up and what do they cover?
Each building has an alarm on the 1st floor windows, doors, and zones(apartments).
What is a zone?
The zone is the apartment #.
Will the entire building alarm go off if a smoke detector in a room goes off?
No. If an individual room smoke detector goes off, it does not set off the building alarm. Only the hallway alarms are hard-wired to activate the fire alarm system.
What should you do if a student calls and says their smoke detector is going off in their room?
Ask them if it is going off in the hallway also. Is there any smoke or fire? If so, tell them to pull a pull station and evacuate the building. If there is no smoke or fire, send officers to check.
If a smoke detector needs a new battery, who is responsible for that?
The resident is responsible, but, if a work order is put in with maintenance, they will assist.
If St James has a light out, who do you email? Where do you log it?
We email St. James Maintenance & log it in the Lighting Report binder. If an officer called it in, we also log it in CAD.
An officer calls in a WO for St James. How should it be put into CAD? Should you call the after hours person or send an email to St James maintenance?
It needs to be put in CAD as “Miscellaneous - Work Order”. If it is something that needs to be taken care of right away, call the after hours number and be sure they understand that it cannot wait. They will then contact their maintenance. If it is something that can wait, send an email to ‘stjamesmaintenance@fsmail.bradley.edu’.
Who do you need to call with a disposition after officers respond to St. James for an alarm call?
Call the online number to inform them of the disposition. They will have received a call also from the alarm company, but they will not respond unless we call and request them to.
If a student needs let in during regular business hours, who do they need to call to be let in?
If it’s during regular business hours, they should contact the St. James office (or we transfer them over).
