What is a bomb threat?
A bomb threat is when a threat condition exists when an explosive device has been reported or suspected to be at a specific location
What is a bomb emergency?
A bomb emergency is when an explosive (suspected or actual) device has been located or has been detonated.
Where can you find a bomb threat checklist fast?
You can find a checklist in the blue binder on the desk in the middle.
Give a list of information you need to get right away.
Keep the reporting party on the line, identify the location and appearance of the device and when it will detonate.
How should officers be dispatched?
Contact the command officer and other officers by phone.
Who else should be notified immediately?
Notify Peoria PSAP.
What other information should you get from the caller?
Type of device, what it looks like, what will make it detonate, why it was placed. Get the exact wording of the threat, estimate the sex, race, & age of the caller, the nature of their voice, background noises.
Should radios and cells be used at the site? Why?
No. Some explosive devices may be detonated by stronger radio signals.
When should a building be evacuated?
When the command officer determines it is necessary.
Should an alert be put out?
The command officer will notify the Chief who will determine if an alert will be issued.
