BURGLARY / INTRUDER Flashcards
What information do you need right away if it is in progress or just occurred? What should you do with this information?
Location of the situation, is the complainant in a safe place, their name. Immediately dispatch officers and tell them you are getting further information.
How many officers should be sent if it is in progress or just occurred?
Send 2 officers immediately.
Should you keep the caller on the line? Why?
Keep the caller on the line so you can be sure they are safe and get further information.
If the caller is in the house, what should you do and questions should you ask?
If they are inside the house, where in the house are they? Is the room they are in locked or secured? If not, can they push something in front of the door? Can they tell how many people there are? Can they tell where the intruders are now? Are they sure it couldn’t be a roommate? Keep them updated on what the officers are doing. Find out if they know how the intruders got in the house. Is there an open door the officers can get in? Is there a window they can see out of to identify the intruders or maybe they can throw the keys out of the window to the officers.
If the caller is outside of the house, what should you do and questions should you ask?
If the caller is outside the house, have them move a safe distance from the house, maybe in front of their neighbors house. Get their exact location and vehicle, if they are in one, and pass it along to the officers so they know it is them when they pull up. They can still update you in case anyone comes out of the house. Do they know how the intruders got in? Are they sure it couldn’t be a roommate? Is one of the doors unlocked? Did they see anyone?
What information do you need if it occurred earlier?
How long ago? Caller information and their location now, location of situation, description and direction of travel, weapons, and items taken.
How many officers should be sent if it occurred earlier?
1 officer as long as there is no possibility that the intruders may still be in the area.
