What is hydrocortisone?
Corticosteroid given for ulcerative colitis and adrenocortical insufficiency due to Addison’s disease or thyrotoxic shock. It reduces the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and promotes the production of pro-inflammatory mediators.
It should be avoided with active infection and leads to Cushing’s syndrome, anxiety and muscle wasting and osteoporosis.
What is Fludrocortisone?
Mineralcorticoid which is given for adrenocortical insufficiency such as salt-wasting congenital hyperplasia or Neuropathic postural hypotension.
It causes bloating, hypertension, hypokalemia and muscle wasting. Should be avoided in active infection.
What is Beclamethasone?
It is an inhaled corticosteroid given for asthma, allergic rhinitis and allergic skin conditions. It reduces the production of pro-inflammatory mediators.
Side effects are increased risk of pneumonia with COPD, voice alteration and oral candiadis. Should be avoided in active nasal infection or pulmonary tuberculosis.
