Q

What is digoxin used to treat?

A

Atrial flutter. It increases intracellular Ca2+ and has a positive inotropic effect but stimulates the vagus nerve to reduce heart rate. This occurs because there is inhibition of the na+/K+ ATPase which increases activity of the Na/Ca2+ exchanger.
