How should tension headaches be managed?
A
Reassure that this is not a concerning cause of headaches. Offer simple analgesia (paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin) for acute treatment. Do NOT offer aspirin to <16-year-olds due to risk of Reye’s syndrome. Do NOT offer opioids.

What prophylactic treatment can be considered for chronic tension-type headache in over 12-year-olds?

Consider a course of up to 10 sessions of acupuncture over 5-8 weeks.
