What are the classical triad defining features of nephrotic syndrome?
Proteinuria (> 1 g/m^2 per 24 hours), hypoalbuminaemia (< 25 g/l), oedema.
What is the peak incidence age range for nephrotic syndrome in children?
Between 2 and 5 years of age.
What percentage of nephrotic syndrome cases in children are due to minimal change glomerulonephritis?
Around 80%.
What is the general prognosis for nephrotic syndrome in children?
Around 90% of cases respond to high-dose oral steroids.
What are other features of nephrotic syndrome in children?
Hyperlipidaemia, a hypercoagulable state, and a predisposition to infection.

Due to loss of antithrombin III.
Why is there a predisposition to infection in nephrotic syndrome?
Due to loss of immunoglobulins.
