- The Sworn Field Training Program consists of the following phases: [CALEA 33.4.3]
a. Phase One:
(1) 14 working days; and
(2) Primary assignment to a zone, watch, and FTO.
b. Phase Two:
(1) 14 working days; and
(2) Assignment to a different zone, watch, and FTO.
c. Phase Three:
(1) 14 working days; and
(2) Assignment to a different zone, watch, and FTO.
Phase Four:
(1) Eight working days; and
(2) Normally returns to the Phase One zone, watch, and FTO.
Remedial Training Phase(s), if necessary:
(1) Up to two phases, consisting of 14 working days each;
(2) Assignment is determined on a case-by-case basis; and
(3) May be given after Phase Two or Phase Three.

- Officers who are promoted to the rank of sergeant must complete the following training within …………:
a. Complete two phases of training (totaling 10 shifts) with a FTO patrol sergeant. Part of that training is that 10 Daily Observation Reports must be completed in LEAPS for the newly promoted officer.
b. During the two phases of training, the “Sergeant Rook Book” must be completed in LEAPS and signed by the probationary sergeant and the FTO patrol sergeant.
c. The Field Training Unit will maintain a list of FTO patrol sergeants approved to train newly promoted sergeants.

- Within ………………of being promoted from officer to sergeant, complete the 40 hour Sergeant’s Development Class.
a. This class is offered during a promotional cycle based on Human Resources’ projections on promotion dates. Officers on the promotional list will be notified of the dates for this class by the Field Training Unit.
b. Attendance in the class is not a guarantee for promotion

Sergeants who are promoted to the rank of lieutenant are required to complete the following:
a. Complete two work-alongs with a patrol lieutenant for an entire patrol shift (11.42 hours each). This will be documented on an Intradepartmental Correspondence Form (P-0004) from the training lieutenant to Field Training Unit.
b. Complete the 40 hour Lieutenant’s Development Class. This class is offered during a promotion cycle based on Human Resources’ projections on promotion dates. Sergeants on the promotional list will be notified of the dates for the class by the Field Training Unit.
c. Attendance in the class is not a guarantee for promotion.
If at any time and for any reason a FTO is given a ………………………………………, he will be placed on inactive status subject to review by the Commanding Officer of Field Training Unit. The lieutenant of the FTO receiving the discipline shall notify the Commanding Officer of Field Training Unit immediately. One year after returning to duty, the officer may reapply for active status, and if selected will need to complete all required training as outlined in this order.
