JSO employees who are law enforcement officers, as defined below, are considered ”on duty” and covered by Workers’ Compensation while engaged in their primary duty of enforcing the criminal, traffic, or penal laws of Florida in their primary or authorized secondary employment. Law enforcement officers are also covered by Workers’ Compensation while coming from or going to work or authorized secondary employment in an official law enforcement vehicle, except for a distinct deviation for a nonessential personal errand.

If the line of duty injury occurs while an officer is off-duty or while working secondary employment, the officer must notify ……………………………. where the injury occurred if there are no supervisors working the secondary employment assignment. If there is a supervisor working the secondary employment assignment when the injury occurred, the supervisor working the secondary employment assignment is responsible for completing the Workers’ Compensation claim. If applicable, the incident/claim number from the Workers’ Compensation claim submission shall be given to the injured employee to take with them to the treatment facility. In an emergency, the employee can be transported without the incident/claim number.
b. Do not list any JSO facility (e.g., PMB, substation, detention facility, etc.) as the employee’s home address. The COJ Workers’ Compensation Section is required to send employees their rights under Workers’ Compensation Rules, notices of doctor’s appointments, and other documents to the…………………..

Overtime requests are not authorized for medical appointments relating to Workers’ Compensation injuries outside of regularly scheduled hours unless the employee is receiving initial treatment that goes beyond end of shift, or the employee must be seen by a Workers’ Compensation treating physician the following day which falls on their regular day/time off. Employees who become exposed to a communicable disease in the line of duty shall, upon response to treatment, be offered the option of having their blood collected for testing of the employee’s Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) serological status. The blood sample shall be preserved for at least ………….. to allow the employee to decide if the blood should be tested for HIV serological status. However, if the employee decides prior to that time that testing shall be conducted, then the appropriate action can be taken and the blood sample discarded.

All employees seeking a temporary limited duty assignment must complete a Request for Temporary Medical Limited Duty form (P-1217).
(1) The Request for Temporary Medical Limited Duty form (P-1217) is routed through the chain of command to the ………………………..who recommends approval or disapproval and forwards it to …………….. An employee on temporary limited duty shall not be assigned a take-home vehicle, and shall only be allowed to drive a JSO vehicle during work hours after receiving approval from a ………………….. Prior to return to full duty, employees shall bring a physician’s release statement to the JSO medical section designee. If an employee is placed on light duty on a Friday evening or on the weekend, a Request for Temporary Medical Limited Duty form (P-1217) must be completed by the employee and routed through their chain of command. Patrol personnel must have their commanding officer contact the Commanding Officer of Tele-Serv Unit in order to facilitate the employee’s transfer to the Tele-Serv Unit for a light duty assignment until the ………………………………… can make a final determination.
