303 Emergency Opioid Antagonist Treatment Flashcards
…………………. – Impaired mental or physical functioning as a result of the use of physiological and/or psychoactive substances, i.e., euphoria, dysphoria, apathy, sedation, and attention impairment.
Drug Intoxication
……………………….– Intranasal MAD used to deliver a mist of atomized medication that is absorbed directly into a person’s bloodstream and directly into the brain and cerebrospinal fluid via the nose to brain pathway. This method of medication administration achieves medication levels comparable to injections.
Mucosal Atomization Device (MAD)
……………..– An opioid receptor antagonist and antidote for opioid overdose produced in intramuscular, intranasal, or intravenous forms. Naloxone is the generic equivalent of Narcan and shall be the name referenced throughout this Order.
Naloxone
………….– 2 mg/2 mL prefilled syringes compatible with the intranasal MAD for nasal rescue. Narcan is the proprietary drug name and shall be referred to as Naloxone throughout this Order.
Narcan
………. – A class of drugs derived from opium. Examples include heroin, fentanyl, morphine, buprenorphine, codeine, hydromorphone, hydrocodone, oxymorphone, methadone, and oxycodone.
Opioids

Opioid Overdose
………………………. – An approach to infection control to treat all human blood and human body fluids as if they were known to be infectious for bloodborne pathogens.
Universal Precautions
All incidents involving the application of Naloxone shall be documented prior to the end of shift using the following reporting methods:
