The LPU’s primary function is to
evaluate, compare, and identify latent fingerprints and to develop latent prints from physical evidence.
Latent prints that meet specified criteria are entered into the
Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS).
Members of the LPU are not subject to regular callouts. For emergency situations that occur during non-working hours that require the expertise of LPU personnel, contact may be made through
the Commanding Officer of the Crime Scene Unit.
All requests for LPU services will be submitted on a completed
“LATENT PRINT EXAMINATION REQUEST FORM “
Can requests be made by telephone or email?
No requests will be accepted by telephone or e-mail.
Laboratory requests forms are to be completely filled out and must include the following information:
- Sub Sector;
- Signal;
- Victims name (if known);
- Complete name of person to be compared;
- DOB; and
- JSO number (if subject has a previous record), or information regarding any out of county/state arrest activity.
Requests for evidence processing are to include the following information
- Item Submission Number(s) (6 digits);
- Item Number; and
- Description of evidence.

Court orders to obtain fingerprints for Judgment and Sentencing cases with no prior LPU involvement are handled by
the AFIS Unit.
