What is the function of the UAS unit?

c. A description of the person(s) or object(s) being searched for;
d. The location where the person(s) or object(s) were last seen;
e. The current weather conditions to include wind speed and precipitation;
f. The approximate height and density of the vegetation (e.g., trees, bushes, etc.) and the
presence of any obstructions (e.g., power lines, cranes, etc.) in the area to be searched;
and
g. If searching a body of water, the approximate depth and description of the body of
water.

Pilot-in-Command
a. Oversees and coordinates the usage of the UAS during operations and training;
b. Has the responsibility for the operation and the safety of the UAS flight;
c. Has been designated as the pilot-in-command before or during the flight;
d. Holds a Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft License issued by the FAA under 14 CFR Part
107; and
e. On smaller, less complicated operations, the pilot-in-control and the pilot-in-command
can be the same person.
Pilot-in-Command
A sworn JSO officer assigned to operate the UAS:
a. Exercises physical “hands-on” control over the UAS during flight;
b. Has been designated as the pilot-in-control before the UAS operation begins; and
c. Holds a Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft License issued by the FAA.
Pilot-in-Control
A JSO member designated by the Assistant Chief of Special
Operations to coordinate UAS operations, training of UAS pilots and visual observers, the
maintenance and purchase of equipment, and the documentation of records.
